3 WOMEN CENTERED MOVIES WORTH WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

Looking for something to watch this weekend? Here are three films currently streaming that put women front and center — no further justification needed.

1. Apex (2026)

Charlize Theron plays a woman who becomes the target in a deadly hunting game on a remote island — forced to survive and fight back against the man hunting her for sport.

A woman swimming in a dark lake with a serious expression, alongside a bold title reading 'APEX', and a dramatic scene below showing a struggle between two individuals in a turbulent water setting.

The movie is an action thriller that isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel — and that’s exactly why I enjoyed it. We have a million mediocre action movies centering men and nobody bats an eye. I see no reason why the bar has to be set higher just because a woman is leading. Apex is a solid, entertaining watch that doesn’t overstay its welcome. 7.9/10. Streaming on Netflix.

2. The Dreadful (2026)

Anne and her domineering mother-in-law are barely surviving on the outskirts of society when a man from Anne’s past returns from war — and with him comes a curse, and a threat that could destroy them both.

A promotional image for 'The Dreadful' featuring two women with intense expressions, one in the foreground and the other in the background. The title 'The Dreadful' is prominently displayed at the bottom.

A medieval thriller that falls into the same category — not groundbreaking but worth your time. I wanted more from the ending but Sophie Turner and Marcia Gay Harden both deliver and that’s enough to carry it. Sometimes a decent movie with good performances is all you need on a Friday night. 7.5/10. Streaming on Prime Video.

3. Hedda (2025)

Follows a brilliant, restless woman trapped in a suffocating marriage who manipulates everyone around her in a desperate bid for control over her own life.

A close-up of a woman with red lipstick and a pearl necklace, showing an intense expression, accompanied by the stylized title 'Hedda'. Below, a dramatic scene featuring two characters in a tense moment, with one wearing a suit and the other in elegant attire.

This one is the strongest of the three. Tessa Thompson gives a chaotic, committed performance that I genuinely enjoyed watching — the kind where you can’t look away even when you’re not sure what she’s going to do next. Strong recommendation. 8.4/10. Streaming on Netflix
