THE BURBS HAS BEEN RENEWED FOR SEASON 2 — DON’T SLEEP ON THIS ONE

Peacock has officially renewed The Burbs for a second season — and if you haven’t watched Season 1 yet this is your sign.

The Burbs is a contemporary comedy mystery series loosely inspired by the 1989 Tom Hanks cult classic of the same name. Keke Palmer plays Samira, a city girl who moves with her husband Rob into his childhood home in Hinkley Hills — “The Safest Town in America.” Samira immediately clocks that something is off about the abandoned pink Victorian at the top of the cul-de-sac, especially when she learns a teenage girl who lived there went missing years ago and was never found. She enlists her equally nosy neighbors — Dana, Lynn and Tod — and together they set out to uncover the truth.

And that ensemble is genuinely the show’s strongest asset. Keke Palmer’s comedic timing is impeccable and Paula Pell is a delight in every scene she’s in. Julia Duffy as Lynn and Mark Proksch as Tod round out the neighbor group in ways that keep the dynamic feeling fresh rather than repetitive. The dark humor is well delivered and the show moves with an energy that makes it easy to binge.

Think Desperate Housewives meets Scooby Doo with a campy creepy edge.

Is it perfect? No. Some of the mystery threads get dropped before they’re resolved and the chemistry between Samira and her husband Rob isn’t always convincing — but it’s a solid binge and the kind of show that deserved more attention than it got. Season 2 is officially happening. Stream Season 1 now on Peacock before it drops.
