September is always a good month for cinema. The summer blockbuster noise dies down and films with just a bit more substance start showing up. This month has a handful of women centered releases worth putting on your radar, Here is what to look out for.

Bad Apples | September 18

Saoirse Ronan plays a struggling primary school teacher who makes increasingly questionable decisions after one of her students is injured. A dark comedy thriller that premiered at TIFF 2025 with an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and reviews calling it the most unhinged dark comedy of the year.

If I Go Will You Miss Me | September 18

A Sundance favorite directed by Walter Thompson-Hernández, following a Black family navigating the emotional distance between a father who has never fully found his footing and the son who needs him. Danielle Brooks plays Lozita, the mother holding everything together. Described as an intimate indie film, I hope it gets more attention because it sounds like one to watch.

Onslaught | September 4

An A24 action horror film directed by Adam Wingard. When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers escapes from a secret military facility, a badass army sniper played by Adria Arjona has to unleash everything she has to protect her young daughter. Also starring Rebecca Hall. You had me at A24 production.

Fall 2: Deadpoint | September 2

Already in theaters as of September 2nd. Two women travel to Thailand seeking adventure and end up stranded 3,000 feet above ground on Mount Kwan after a terrifying rockslide. Starring Harriet Slater and Arsema Thomas. If you loved the first Fall and your anxiety can handle it, this one is waiting for you.

Practical Magic 2 | September 10

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back as the Owens sisters, along with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, with Joey King and Maisie Williams joining as the next generation. Set 25 years after the original, the family curse is back and so is the witchy autumn energy everyone has been waiting for. Honestly, I’m not usually a sequel person and the original Practical Magic is a film I hold close so I most likely won’t be seeing this. But I included it for the superfans who have been waiting since 1998, your moment has arrived.
