Every month at Vixen Cinema we center our content around a theme. This September we are dedicating the month to biopics, specifically the films that tell the real stories behind some of the most talented women artists.
Biopics are a complicated genre. At their best they give us access to lives we would never otherwise understand, women who fought, created, survived and changed the world on their own terms. At their worst they flatten those lives into highlight reels, skip the uncomfortable parts and hand the story to the wrong people to tell. This month we are talking about both.

September at Vixen Cinema is about the women behind the films. The artists whose lives were so extraordinary that Hollywood felt compelled to put them on screen, and whether or not Hollywood actually did them justice.
We will be covering three artist biopics this month, diving into the real stories behind the women who inspired them, what the films got right, what they left out, and why these women were so iconic. We are also continuing the conversation around who gets to tell these stories and how they get told.
Stay tuned. This month is going to be a good one.
