TOP 3 APPLE TV SHOWS TO WATCH RIGHT NOW

Written by

Apple TV just had a surprisingly massive night at the Emmys, racking up more nominations than any other network or streamer this year. The streets are wondering why Apple TV isn’t more popular given their basically unlimited budget. My theory? They’re just not marketing like the big dogs. Either way, a lot of casual viewers still don’t have much familiarity with what’s actually on the platform. So if you just signed up because of all the buzz, or you’re thinking about it, here are my top 3 current shows to help you narrow down what to hit play on first.

3. Silo

Close-up of an astronaut's face wearing a helmet, gazing intently into the distance.

A post-apocalyptic mystery following a community living underground in a massive silo, generations after whatever happened to the world outside. Great concept. If you’re a lover of sci-fi, this is a great place to start. Fair warning, the pacing is slow and season 3 isn’t as strong as season 1, but once you’re invested, it’s 100% worth the watch.

2. Widow’s Bay

A dramatic montage featuring a group of diverse characters in a coastal setting, including a lighthouse, a fishing boat, and ominous stormy skies.

A horror comedy following the mayor of a small New England town quietly dealing with a centuries old curse. The Emmy sweep should be all the convincing you need. If you’re scared it won’t live up to the hype, believe me, it does.

1. Dark Matter

A tense conversation between two individuals, one wearing a blue jacket and the other in a black sleeveless top, standing with arms crossed in a modern, stylish interior.

A sci-fi thriller following a physicist who’s kidnapped and thrown into an alternate version of his own life, forced to fight his way back to the family that isn’t his anymore in this reality. One of the best sci-fi shows out right now. If you liked the movie Coherence, you’ll be very satisfied watching this show. I know Widow’s Bay is the big talk of the town, but of all the shows on this list, this one’s my top pick.

A couple of shows you might notice are missing here. Ted Lasso is currently ranked as Apple’s number 1 show overall, but I couldn’t connect with the last season. I’m not a big fan of Jason Sudeikis to begin with, and the whole small town charm thing just isn’t my lane, so seeing it ranked that high is a bit of a surprise to me. Pluribus isn’t here either, and that one I’ll actually defend, it’s a great concept and clearly well made, I just got bored halfway through. Still worth the watch, just not for me. And I left out shows like Severance since this list is specifically for what’s currently airing right now.
